Child of Glass is an unsparing account of the loss of an unborn, long-awaited child against the backdrop of political unrest in the Ukraine and public controversies in Estonia. Maarja Kangro addresses themes of death, trauma, suffering, and the “bitter” experience of humility in the face of existence with dark, sarcastic humour. At the same time she lays bare feelings of inner distress sensitively and with almost surgical precision.
