Kind aus Glas is an unsparing account of the loss of a long-awaited unborn child against the backdrop of political unrest in the Ukraine and public controversies in Estonia. Maarja Kangro addresses themes of death, trauma, suffering, and the “bitter” experience of humility in the face of existence with dark, sarcastic humor. At the same time, she lays bare feelings of inner distress with sensitivity and almost surgical precision.
